Achievement For All

Special Educational Needs

At Ashmount we attach great importance to the individual needs of all children. These may range from learning needs to physical, emotional and behavioural difficulties.

Children with special needs have access to a broad and balanced curriculum. We aim to identify children's needs at an early stage, and offer support that will help them develop their skills and abilities. The school works in partnership with parents, and, where appropriate, with specialists from other services.

For further information, please contact the school's Special Needs Co-ordinator, Sue Mattocks, through the school office.

Cultural Diversity

Thirty-four languages are spoken at Ashmount, with communities represented from all over the world. This brings a wealth of cultural experience and knowledge to our school, which we see as a rich and diverse resource. We have an experienced teacher who co-ordinates extra support for those who need it.

Gifted and Talented Pupils

We have a Gifted and Talented Register, which is maintained by our Gifted and Talented Co-ordinator, Ranna Pandya. 'Gifted' pupils are achieving academically above expected levels, and 'talented' pupils show a particular aptitude for art, music, drama, dance or sport.

Special events and activities for gifted and talented pupils are organised at school and within the borough. The progress of these pupils is monitored as they move through the school.
